Harmonizing Linked Data: A Practical Approach
Susan Nicole Stanley and Heather Lea Moulaison
Failed searches for personal names in online databases can potentially be supplemented by content encoded as linked data; without the addition of linked data into existing metadata records, it is still possible to provide access on a small scale to linked data content for individual institutions such as libraries. Queries focusing on personal names can be particularly difficult because of the importance and difficulty of differentiating individuals, especially when this work is automated. The Author Search (AS) prototype presented in this poster is a proof-of-concept in which two stages (programming of a local data cache of author-related linked datasets and a public-facing Web-based search tool) of it are already complete. Design decisions for both of these components will be discussed as well as plans for creating a script that can be embedded in online databases for enhanced discovery through the web of linked data.
