Edie Rasmussen

Edie Rasmussen is currently Professor and Director of the School of Library, Archival and Information Studies at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada. Prior to joining UBC she was a Professor in the School of Information Sciences, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, USA, where she chaired the Doctoral Studies committee, and served for three years as Department Chair. She has also held faculty appointments at the School of Library and Information Studies at Dalhousie University, Nova Scotia, Canada, the School of Library Science at the Institiut Teknoloji MARA, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and visiting positions at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore and Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. She holds a B.Sc. from the University of British Columbia and an M.Sc. from McMaster University, both in Chemistry, an M.L.S. degree from the University of Western Ontario, and a Ph.D. in Information Studies from the University of Sheffield, England. She started her career in special libraries, holding positions as a Technical Information Officer and Librarian in scientific institutions in the Canadian government sector. She has been an active contributor to the information science community, serving on editorial boards for IS journals, as Conference Chair for three major conferences, and as a committee chair for many others. Her service to ASIS&T includes serving as Conference Chair for the 2002 Annual Meeting, Chair of the Research Committee, Chair and Vice-Chair of the Pittsburgh ASIS&T Chapter, Faculty Advisor for the Pittsburgh Student Chapter, and member of the Publications task force. She has also served as member or chair of many of ASIS&T's award juries.
