Summary

Global advances in mobile technology have led to international ubiquity of smartphones and other mobile devices promising on-the-go information-seeking convenience. A more robust industry infrastructure, sophisticated input devices and hundreds of thousands of downloadable applications are feeding the phenomenon. This panel will examine the challenges of international technical infrastructure, cultural differences, public policies and research mandates and address a number of questions: 

• What philosophical approaches do we take to understanding the benefits of diary mobile apps in information seeking? 
• How can we thoroughly address the ethical issues surrounding the use of diary mobile apps? 
• What methods do we currently use for gathering and analyzing such data? 
• What challenges do diary mobile apps present to researchers and scholars, and how can we overcome these challenges?
