Growing, diverse, and now world-wide Information architecture is a field attracting members of many different disciplines, including web designers, digital librarians, software developers, user interface designers, cognitive scientists, applied anthropologists, project managers, multimedia artists, and educators, to name just a few. These practioners and researchers bring the strong principles and methodologies of their own disciplines to the new and emerging field of IA and this benefits us all. Until recently, those who practiced IA operated largely on their own, without the benefit of a professional community. Now, SIG-IA has begun to play an important role by providing a central gathering place: channels for discussion, learning, and professional development.
