To be eligible for participation in the seminar, student scholars need to apply for one or both of the two doctoral student awards given by ASIST: the ISI Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Scholarship and the UMI Doctoral Dissertation Award. The details for eligibility are available from http://www.asis.org/awards/awardchart.htm. Essentially, students who have successfully defended their proposal are eligible for the ISI Scholarship; those who have successfully defended their dissertation are eligible for the UMI Award.
From this combined pool, the seminar organizers work with the juries to invite those applicants ranked the highest in their respective competitions.
Once the junior scholars have been invited and have accepted that invitation, the organizers identify a more senior scholar interested in with the junior scholar during the seminar. During the seminar, the pairs have time for individual discussions as well as larger group discussions of research and career-related topics.
