The theme of the 1996 ASIS Annual Meeting was
"Global Complexity: Information Chaos and Control." The advances in chaos theory over the past few decades provide new and important insights into the world of information. The impact of
chaos and complex systems on information activities is profound. The thoughts and research of some of the finest minds in information science come together in these Proceedings to address these topics and the
efforts of information scientists to gain some measure of control in an increasingly chaotic and complex environment.
The Proceedings are organized in three parts. Part I contains the
contributed papers in the order in which they were presented. Part II includes abstracts of SIG sessions, arranged alphabetically by SIG. Part III
includes notes on the plenary and keynote speakers and limited information about the special sessions. A subject index and author index conclude the volume. ©1996
