Journal of the American Society for Information Science

Special Topics Issue: Law in Cyberspace

Call for Papers

The next Special Topics Issue of Journal of the Ameri- can Society for Information Science (JASIS) is scheduled to come out in late 1997 on the topic of Law in Cyberspace. The guest editor for this special issue will be Professor David E. Sorkin of The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois.

National and international electronic information net- works have given rise to a new jurisdiction. Traditional legal rules and structures often are inadequate to address the unique characteristics of cyberspace. Industry is rush- ing to exploit the new frontier, and lawmakers are attempt- ing to regulate it. Meanwhile, commentators are divided on whether cyberspace is fundamentally different: Can existing laws be adapted to cyberspace, or is an entirely new approach necessary?

Papers in this area are sought. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Jurisdiction in borderless environments
  • Electronic currency and commerce
  • Anonymity, pseudonymity, impersonation, and authentication
  • Liability and accountability for wrongful acts in cyberspace
  • Netiquette and cultural norms in cyberspace
  • Regulation and governance of international networks
  • Informational privacy and confidentiality in cyberspace
  • Regulation of electronic transborder data flows

Inquiries and manuscript submissions (four copies of full articles) should be addressed to:
