From Documentation to Information Science / The Beginnings and Early Development of the American Documentation Institute-American Society for Information Science
by Irene Farkas-Conn
There are many people to thank for our being able to make this work available digitally. First and foremost, of course, is the author, Irene S. Farkas-Conn, a valued member of ASIS&T who has served on the
JASIS&T Editorial Board, the ASIS&T Board of Directors and numerous ASIS&T committees. Her dedication to understanding the development of our discipline and organization, and sharing that understanding so all can learn from it, is greatly appreciated.
Irene published this work with Greenwood Press, which was eventually acquired by ABC-Clio. Thus the citation for this work is:

Our thanks to ABC-Clio who was very agreeable to the project of digitizing the book and regretted only not have electronic copy to make the task easier.
To digitize the book we went to Access Innovations and Marjorie Hlava, former ASIS&T President, Publications Chair, and overall a wealth of good ideas. Access Innovations developed the methodology for implementation, and performed the conversion from print to electronic and the loading of the files so that they can be commented on in interactive discussion threads. Particular thanks to Jack Bruce for the conversions, Mary Garcia for the implementation, and Marjorie Hlava for guiding the process.
It is most fitting that we debut this digital work in a participatory form during the recognition of ASIS&T’s 75th anniversary. We hope you will enjoy learning about the history of ASIS&T and will contribute your insights and stories about our shared history. By doing so you will enrich our present and help guide our future.
Diane H. Sonnenwald
2012 ASIS&T President
