A Dynamic Mapping of Empirical Know-how Sensitive to Task Context

Summary
As a kind of knowledge both tacit and explicit, empirical know-how has played an important role in helping people solve various tasks without thoroughly understanding the principles behind them. Our proposal, EKhMap, comprises the first attempt to visualize this empirical knowledge for better utilization of it. With context awareness added to the know-how map developed, the display of knowledge can adjust itself dynamically to the user’s current task progress. It is expected that people can get access to the know-how they desire more conveniently with the aid offered by EKhMap, and the visualization of correlated action route may probably increase a user’s skill in solving similar problems under changed circumstance.
