Conference City

Washington, DC (excerpted from Washington DC Convention and Visitors Assn, October 23, 1998)

The votes are in! The readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine chose Washington, DC as one of the  top travel destinations. Washington ranks number 10 on the list of top US cities. This is the first time  Washington made the list. Other cities (in order of ranking) include San Francisco; New Orleans; Santa Fe; Charleston, SC; Boston; New York; Seattle; San Antonio and Chicago.

More than 37,000 magazine subscribers voted on the world's best destinations, hotels, cruise lines,  airlines, and more in the 11th Annual Conde Nast Traveler Reader's Choice Awards. This poll is  considered to be the most credible and comprehensive of its kind. Results were announced October 15 by Thomas Wallace, Conde Nast's editor-in-chief, in Malibu, CA during the American Society of
