User engagement is a quality of user experience with technology that argues for technology to be not only usable, but also compelling, aesthetically pleasing, novel, interesting, and memorable. Engagement has been studied as a process and a product of human-computer interactions with online shopping, searching, learning, and gaming applications. We propose to extend this framework to researchersí use of qualitative software and the manifestation of engagement during the data analysis process. In this poster we demonstrate the novelty of this application area and its relevance to information science. Next we describe the nature of our research questions and proposed course of investigation, and thenconclude with the anticipated outcomes and implications of this work.
