In this paper, we survey the genres of media objects used by six Web sites providing boating instruction in the U.S. The purpose of the analysis is to understand the usage of different media objects for e-learning and potential management schemes of the media objects in e-leaning systems. The goals of the project are: 1) to survey genres of media objects used at the sites; 2) to analyze the instructional purposes of the objects; 3)and to explore potential management mechanisms of the media objects in e-learning systems. This poster focuses on an initial understanding of the usage of the media objects for e-learning.
