The poster will present the author's dissertation research proposal which will conduct a discourse analysis of online chat reference interviews. The goal of the study is to reflect existing information-seeking behavior models upon the recent context of the computer-mediated communication (CMC), and to augment the theories. By incorporating the dialogue acts into the analysis of information behavior, the study will provide a more holistic view of information-seeking interactions than traditional approaches.
