|Symposium on Informetrics and Scientometrics Research (SIG MET, ISSI)|
Full Day Seminar, Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, 9:00am - 5:00pm (separate fee)
Metrics-based research has a long history in North America. Papers with an informetrics or scientometrics focus are present among the contributed paper sessions at the Annual
ASIS&T meetings. However, in recent years they have occupied at most a single session, or have been integrated with other sessions. Metrics-themed meetings are held annually in Europe for the presentation of research and exchange of ideas. This has not been the case in North America over the past decade.
Unlike a typical 90-minute conference session, the pre-conference will permit a focused, full day for metrics researchers to present their current projects and to discuss issues of interest of relevance to the field. The pre-conference format will provide an opportunity for a larger critical mass of research presentations. As a collaborative effort with the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI), this pre-conference will encourage ISSI members, and other members of the metrics community who might not otherwise attend, to partake in ASIS&T meeting activities.
