Samuel Martin and Christopher Lueg

ASIS&T 2008 Annual Meeting (AM08 2008)
Columbus, Ohio, October 24-29, 2008

Summary

Usability and usefulness of email is threatened by unsolicited commercial email aka spam. Spam filters have been deployed widely to help reduce the amount of spam users have to cope with email users often have difficulties understanding how spam filters work and how they assess messages. We conducted a series of user experiments using a simulated email interface providing richer spam filtering information. Feedback suggests that additional information provided by the email interface is welcome and encourages to further investigate ways to incorporate into the filtering process the provision of feedback.
