In this poster, we explore how users perform web tasks that require multiple web sessions to satisfy a goal. We are interested in the frequency of these tasks, the type of tasks classified as multi-session and the range of browser tools that users utilize to help complete these tasks. We explore this through a web-based diary study where participants self-reported their non-monitoring multi-session tasks and a field study where participants used a customized version of Firefox that logged both multi-session tasks and all their browsing behaviour. Using the results from these studies, we will outline guidelines and recommendations for browser features to help facilitate non-monitoring multi-session web tasks.
