How to Organize Digital Photos: A Case Study with Amateur Digital Photographers
ASIS&T Annual Meeting - 2006 (ASIS&T 2006)
Austin, Texas, November 3-9, 2006
The purpose of this study is to identify people’s real needs for digital photo management to prove there is a gap between photographers’ needs and the current research on digital photo management. A survey and a follow-up interview were conducted with 22 amateur digital photographers to explore how they organize and search their photos. The findings include; 1) They do not delete their photos, 2) They organize their photos by date, 3) They rarely look back their photos, 4) They search by guessing, and 5) They “manipulate” their photos. An occasion-based approach is suggested for an alternative.
