Westin Charlotte, Charlotte, North Carolina, October 28 - November 2, 2005

Abstract

Title: The ASIST Digital Library

The Association for Information Science and Technology publications in a full text searchable digital library. All documents, Journal, Proceedings, Bulletin, Annual Review and Thesaurus needed to be captured to the same XML Standard from a wide variety of original formats, paper and digital. All articles were indexed using a semi automated process against the thesaurus. The DTD is a holdover from SGML implementations. The paper will outline the process for the digitization, the software used, the production process and the verification programs to insure a seamless load of the data to the Digital Library Site on the Wiley InterScience Platform

Participants will learn:

how to adapt and SGML DTD to XML

how to apply keywords from a taxonomy for enhanced retrieval.

an outline of a real production process for XML document conversion

Discuss this on the ASIS&T 2005 Annual Meeting wiki!
