This poster session will describe a current needs assessment at the University at Buffalo that is designed to determine how a collection of digitized dental slides can meet the needs of dental researchers and practitioners. The University's School of Dental Medicine houses several collections of dental slides that depict various pathological conditions of the mouth and maxillofacial region, as well images of various human tissue types. These collections present a rich set of possibilities for pedagogical and diagnostic use by members of the dental profession. Previous studies have not directly addressed the description, organization, and use of digitized dental images, and how those efforts can address the needs of dental professionals. This leaves a gap in the research that this needs assessment can begin to fill.
