Recent Developments in Electronic Resource Management (SIG LT)
Sparking Synergies: Bringing Research and Practice Together @ ASIST '05 (ASIS&T 2005)
Westin Charlotte, Charlotte, North Carolina, October 28 - November 2, 2005
The handling of electronic resources has become so multifaceted and complex as to prevent their effective licensing and use without the help of electronic resource management (ERM) systems. Monitoring such aspects of electronic resources as rapidly changing access conditions and licensing terms, subscription renewal dates, patron authentication, shared resources and usage statistics requires an integrated and standardized management approach. At first, libraries started developing in-house systems; vendors of integrated library (ILS) systems followed with their own versions incorporating recently adopted ERM standards. The invited speakers, representing standardization bodies, librarians and ILS vendors, will provide an update on the status of electronic resource management, and share their experiences and insights with the participants.
