The Role of Special Language in Relation to Knowledge Organization.

Martin Thellefsen

Presented at ASIST 2003 Annual Meeting -- Humanizing Information Technology: From Ideas to Bits and Back (ASIST AM 03 2003), Westin Long Beach, Long Beach, California, October 20 - 23, 2003

The paper is focused on the linguistic and terminological aspect of knowledge organization. And argues that knowledge organization is dealing with terminological representations and linguistic statements, which include documents, document surrogates (the bibliographic record) and subject representations. Therefore, theories of terminology and special language are considered in order to create a framework for special language studies within IS.
