Never in the history of ASIS has a chapter or student chapter got fired up so quickly to astonish even the doubters and the naysayers. The major ingredients for this phenomenal success are a supportive faculty at UK, a strong collaborative effort with SOASIS' leadership, an enthusiastic student chapter membership, and a leader's leader by the name of Kitty McClanahan, Chair of the ASIS Chapter at the University of Kentucky.
Chronology
8/24/99: Dr. Timothy Sineath, Dr. Gerry Benoit, and Jim Cretsos met for lunch at the University of Kentucky Faculty Club to discuss options and plan strategy for launching an ASIS student chapter at the University of Kentucky.
9/16/99: Announcement to LIS student body about new ASIS student chapter, made at the SLA Student Chapter Pizza Party.
9/29/99: Chapter-elect officially launched at the SOASIS Annual Meeting and Dinner held at UK's Young Library. Featured speaker was ASIS member Suzie Allard on "Digital Libraries: Taming the Information Frontier for Users." By conclusion of evening, 43 new paid members had signed on.
10/11/99: Chapter officers pro tem signed on: Kitty McClanahan, Chapter Chair Lillian Mesners and Chris Ryan, Programs Co-Chairs Melissa Rabey, Secretary and Webmaster Lesley Wolfgang-Jackson, Treasurer Membership exceeds 54 members.
10/16/99: SOASIS submitted Request to Charter an ASIS Student Chapter at the University of Kentucky to Julie Hurd, ASIS Chapter Assembly Director.
10/31/99: SOASIS' petition to charter the ASIS Student Chapter at the University of Kentucky approved unanimously by ASIS Chapter Assembly at the 1999 ASIS Annual Conference.
11/4/99: Chapter meeting, featuring: "Computers, Networks, Grids and Portals," a lecture by Dr. John W. D. Connolly,
