Brief Abstract:
Libraries are finding that there are many challenges to providing quality access to information in the digital world. One of the biggest challenges we face is in the tools and systems we have at our disposal; without adequate systems, libraries will not be able to provide their customers with the information they need. Learn how libraries are addressing this issue via the Open Source Development Model, what the model is, how it applies to libraries, and what current projects are using it right now.About the Speaker:
Mr. Frumkin currently works in the Digital Library Initiatives Group of the University of Arizona Library as the Metadata Librarian. He is currently working on a number of Digital Library projects as a developer and metadata consultant, including an open source electronic reserves project, as well as a National Science Foundation grant-funded open source project called The Tree of Life. Mr. Frumkin is also chair of the Open Source Systems IG of the Library and Information Technology Association of ALA.Prior to his current position, he was the Educational Technology Specialist for the OCLC Institute. Mr. Frumkin received his MLS from Florida State University in 1996.
