<p>Doug Dangler has been fascinated by technology ever since he was a child and tried to build a Star Trek transporter for use on his brothers. Failing at that, he studied chemistry and biology at the University of Toledo and English at the Ohio State University. He is currently eLearning Manager at the College of Arts and Sciences at OSU, where he works to promote new ways of learning. In his off hours, he hosts and produces Craft: Exploring Creativity on WCBE 90.5 FM (<a href="www.crafttheshow.com">www.crafttheshow.com</a>). He&#8217;d still like help with that transporter, but just to make the drive in to work faster.</p>

<p><strong>SUMMARY</strong>: The Common Core Standards mesh with 21st century skills to promote college and career readiness. With these standards and skills, Ohio teachers and librarians face state and national changes calling for an increased emphasis on research, literacy, text complexity and rigorous learning. Join this session to learn the paths to understanding the Common Core Standards and how to utilize a variety of INFOhio resources that align with the standards. This session will be of interest to public librarians, school librarians, college librarians, and anyone who wants to learn more about the impact and the implications of the Common Core on the curriculum in schools.</p>
<p><strong>PRESENTER</strong>: Gayle Geitgey, INFOhio Instructional Integration Specialist<br />
Gayle Geitgey is an Instructional Integration Specialist for INFOhio, the information network for Ohio schools. She has been a high school librarian, district technology director and online adjunct instructor in the areas of curriculum design and information literacy. At INFOhio, Gayle is currently working with the INFOhio Users Council, the ICoach program, IMatrix, the INFOhio inquiry framework and connecting the Common Core Standards with the INFOhio resources.</p>

<p>Join us on Monday evening, August 29th, 2011 for our CO-ASIS&amp;T Annual Meeting.</p>
<p>Presenter Glen Horton will share his tips for managing your data. Learn how to use the right methods and tools to capture, organize, filter, and protect your digital assets.</p>
<p><strong>Glen Horton</strong> recently became the Digital Services Manager for Campbell County Public Library in Northern Kentucky. He is currently building the library’s digital branch and implementing online programming. Glen previously served as the Technology Coordinator for SWON Libraries where he spent eleven years training and providing technology assistance to libraries. He currently resides in Cincinnati with his wife, two kids, one cat, and a lot of data.</p>

<p><strong>Carol Pitts Diedrichs</strong>, <strong>Director of Libraries at The Ohio State University</strong>, will speak at this year&#8217;s annual meeting of the Central Ohio Chapter of the American Society for Information Science &amp; Technology (CO-ASIS&amp;T). Carol&#8217;s presentation <strong><em>Information Technology: What Keeps Me Awake at Night</em></strong> will focus on a series of issues which pose new challenges and opportunities for the modern research library. In particular, issues of relevance for The Ohio State University Libraries, including data curation, discoverability of library resources, preservation of digital content, and the impact of the Google Books Project and e-readers on library collections.</p>
<p>Take advantage of this opportunity to meet OSU&#8217;s new Director of Libraries, and also visit the renovated William Oxley Thompson Memorial Library. Housing significant print collections, digital information resources, spaces for individual study, and areas for interactive group learning, the Thompson&#8217;s original, unique architectural features have now been restored to their original grandeur.</p>

<p><strong>Carol Pitts Diedrichs </strong>returned to The Ohio State University in 2010 as Director of Libraries. The bulk of Carol&#8217;s career was spent at OSU (1987-2003) in a variety of positions. From 2003 to 2009, she served as Dean of Libraries, William T. Young Endowed Chair at the University of Kentucky. Carol currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Association for Research Libraries, served a term as president of ALCTS, and for 13 years served as editor in chief of Library Collections, Acquisitions, and Technical Services. Carol is a frequent speaker, author and consultant. Her work has been recognized by three awards from the American Library Association including the 2008 Ross Atkinson Lifetime Achievement Award from ALCTS.</p>

<p>Libraries started moving their services to &#8220;the cloud&#8221; long before the metaphor emerged to describe the popular trend.  Nevertheless, locally deployed and managed systems prevail in the world of library back-office operations.  Andrew will talk about the library&#8217;s place in the web-scale landscape and the inherent opportunities in moving library management services to the cloud, as well as the specific things that OCLC is working on in order to make such a strategy a practical consideration for libraries.</p>
<p>PRESENTER ANDREW PACE is Executive Director for Networked Library Services at OCLC, where he is directing projects to move library management services to the network level.  He was formerly Head of Information Technology at North Carolina State University Libraries, where he spent 9 years participating in several digital library projects.  Pace is currently Past President of the Library and Information Technology Association, a division of the ALA.  He also serves on the NISO Information standards Quarterly editorial board.  He is a frequent speaker and writer on several library topics.  His blog, &#8220;Hectic Pace&#8221; is available at <a href="http://community.oclc.org/hecticpace/">http://community.oclc.org/hecticpace/</a></p>

<p>For COASIS&amp;T&#8217;s annual program we hosted Dr. Brenda Dervin who presented &#8221;Treat users well. Treat them as if they are human. Perhaps they are.&#8221; Dr. Dervin&#8217;s &#8220;Sense-Making&#8221; methodology and approach have been widely applied within libraries, information systems and numerous other fields. An active researcher, teacher, editor and reviewer, Dr. Dervin is one of the most highly cited scholars in the fields of communication and library/information science. She currently serves on six editorial boards and has served as principal investigator for grant and contract projects for institutions including the National Cancer Institute, Ameritech, the US Office of Education, and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. We look forward to her commentary on recent developments in Sense-Making methodology, how it influences the world outside of library science, and her perspective on the development of &#8220;Second Life&#8221; and other aspects of Web 2.0. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Catch a glimpse of the future and plan to join us for the May luncheon meeting of the Central Ohio Chapter of the American Society for Information Science and Technology on Thursday, May 5th, 2005 at the Fawcett Conference Center in Columbus, Ohio.</p>
<p>Our honored speaker is Joe Branin, Director of Libraries for The Ohio State University, whose topic will be:</p>
<p><strong>&#8220;New Spaces and Places in the Ohio State University Libraries&#8221; </strong></p>
<p>In this presentation, Mr. Branin will describe how Ohio State University Libraries and other research libraries are responding to changes in the information technology, higher education, and public funding environments. Particular focus will be devoted to two projects: Ohio State&#8217;s Knowledge Bank Project to collect and preserve the digital assets of the University, and the major renovation of the William Oxley Thompson Library, OSU&#8217;s grand, historic Main Library at the center of campus.</p>
<p>This is a great opportunity to meet Mr. Branin and to find out more about the Ohio State Libraries today.</p>
