Life & Times of a Local History & Genealogy Librarian

Russ Pollitt, Genealogy Subject Specialist at Columbus Metropolitan Library’s Local History & Genealogy (LHG) Division, will present a program about the daily activities associated with his role.

We will learn about the work LHG does behind the scenes, such as acquisitions of special collections, preparation and maintenance of collections, collaboration with other entities, and community involvement. We will also learn more about LHG’s users, including who they are, how LHG can serve them, and what resources they have available.

Time permitting, we will tour the Local History & Genealogy division, including the Digital Lab and a demonstration of how to get researchers started on doing their family history from a librarian’s point of view.

In the past, Russ has worked in both academic and public libraries. He serves on the boards of the Ohio Genealogical Society, Palatines to America Society-Ohio Chapter, and the Franklin County Genealogical & Historical Society, and is also a member of the Ohio History Connection and the Columbus Historical Society. Russ has a B.S. in History & Psychology from Wilmington College of Ohio and a Masters in Library and Information Science from Kent State. He has written articles for several genealogical publications.
