Electronic Document Imaging: System Planning & Design

Description:

This one-day seminar is intended for information management specialists, records managers, system analysts, data processing specialists, and others responsible for the planning, selection, and implementation of electronic document imaging systems. The seminar will survey the current state of the art
  in electronic document imaging,  emphasizing trends and capabilities that can influence the utility of imaging technology in specific document storage and retrieval situations. While the seminar will deal with technical material, the discussion will emphasize the application of imaging technology to specific business situations. All technical terms and concepts will be explained in a manner appropriate to application-oriented information professionals.

Topics to be covered will include: Definition of electronic document imaging; Implementation alternatives: single-workstation, configurations, networked implementations, timeshared configurations; Input technologies and procedures; document scanning and data entry; Document storage alternatives: current trends in storage technologies: WORM vs. rewritable optical disks; use of magnetic media for image storage; Output technologies and procedures. Trends in video display and image printing; Image and index retrieval software: features and capabilities; Special issues and concerns: current thinking about legality, media stability, media backup; Interfacing document imaging systems with other technologies.
