Workflow Analysis: A Tool for Improving Information  Operations

Description:

Workflow analysis is a process that information managers can use to examine how the work gets done in their operation and to identify opportunities for improvement. It is also an effective first step in automating library and information center processes and finding ways to reduce costs. This course will examine what workflow analysis is; how to represent a  workflow analysis using a flow chart; some ideas for tailoring the format of a flow chart to meet particular organizational needs; specific methods for getting an accurate picture of a process; the importance of testing a workflow analysis for accuracy; and tips for ensuring that your effort is successful. Participants will have opportunities to evaluate and create workflow analyses, brainstorm about solutions to problems, and  examine case studies.
