Editor's Note

Occasionally we dispense with a thematic approach to a Bulletin of the American Society for Information Science and Technology issue and present a grab-bag of the interesting articles that have come our way in recent months. This issue falls into that category. In addition to our regular columns from ASIST President Joe Busch and information architect Andy Dillon, we have reports on two meetings.  As part of  Inside ASIST, President-elect Don Kraft tells of his experiences at a meeting of the Council of Scientific Society Presidents (CSSP), which he attended as ASIST liaison on behalf of the Society. The Council is "an organization of presidents, presidents-elect and recent past presidents of about 60 scientific federations and societies," including ASIST. In another Meeting Review, Candy Schwartz reports on the Infornortics Search Engine Meeting, held in Boston in April of this year.

Providing food for thought, in our cover article Benjamin Brunk, a doctoral student at the University of North Carolina, reflects on privacy concerns related to exoinformation, the information we shed as we go about our daily activities.

Finally, we continue our publication of a selection of the papers submitted to last year's SIG/III International Paper Competition. In this issue we present two papers from Ethiopia. First, Petros Demilew of the Addis Ababa University Libraries reports on "The Potential of Electronic Document Delivery Services for Academic Libraries in Ethiopia." The article covers a survey and a system prototype that are part of a cooperative effort within Ethiopia to make better use of in-country information resources. Then, in  "Reaching the Unreachable: The Role of HealthNet Ethiopia in Disseminating Electronic Health Information Resources," Shimelis Getu Assefa, chief medical librarian at Addis Ababa University and system administrator for HealthNet Ethiopia, discusses HealthNet's approach to reaching Ethiopia's health professionals.
